Culture, behavior and clothing in Egypt
Egypt is an Islamic country. Country that is majority-governed by rules and morals of one of the two major world religions, as well as other more than a billion inhabitants of this planet. You obviously YOU who is a guest in this country, guests and their host meets, but it provided that you comply with certain principles which are to the people of Egypt (this applies obviously for any other culture) inviolate. This fact would be every traveler to Egypt as a premise to inform their behavior and conduct. Take you to your residence as little surprise habits, hopefully contribute to the following lines.
* The introduction – perhaps – a little vanity: behave in Egypt and on his travels in it calmly and politely. As the “futility” We have declared it in good faith, that this rule is general and should – theoretically – to pay for every person in every country. Unfortunately, you do not have to travel to Egypt to witness that does not always have this rule takes tourists due to heart – viz. Prague and groups of drunken German tourists and screaming (this is only an example :-). The inhabitants of Egypt and other Islamic countries are relatively ‘morose’ various idiosyncrasies that elsewhere in the world – for example, resorts in Spain – to go without much noticing.
* The truth is that such behavior is often caused by excessive alcohol. From this perspective, Egypt is a “protected” Islamic ban on their consumption, although this ban is not as strict here as elsewhere. In fact – and this applies particularly to the tourist resorts on the Red Sea – Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, etc. – the alcohol is sold, not only in hotels, but also “more international”-looking restaurants, so you can have a beer, wine or mixed drink according to your tastes. Keep in mind, however – anything to not overdo it.
* During his stay in Egypt you will be contacted daily requests for donations Bakshees. Bakshees from you would expect the Egyptian, who will snatch from his hand luggage at the airport and run from the hall to a vehicle, taxi or bus, the one who can advise you on the path cairo streets, the hotel staff that you press the elevator transports from the first to the second floor – quite simply: bakshees is firmly part of local cultures and indivisible and can not look at it as a means of population in Egypt’s efforts for financial extortion for services rendered. It is also an integral part of the income Egyptians, and a bit’s calling very high salaries for local staff. The usual size is less than 1 EL, so keep them at all times small bills, you never know who you are just going to help :-)
* Certainly drop into the local political debates, or to religious and political leaders of Egypt (including those long dead). In local politics would you like so as not to be, and remember that your view of Islam is made up of nearly one hundred percent of the media painting, created by private television stations …
* Each is a monument of love will bring the holidays (not only in Egypt), clouds pictures and live video. If you intend to take pictures of their vacation soldiers, policemen or even military bases, let the better services to some of the spy network, avoid the shooting at railway stations or bridges. If you like a scene in which people participate as extras in Egypt, preferring to ask them beforehand if you can perpetuate, the less tolerant person does run the risk at least verbal fierce firefight (and get ready for it, that such consent is sufficient reason to grant bakshees :-)
* As regards dress, remember that in Egypt applies the so-called “intensified” better something than nothing. In practice this means that the more you have the shrouded body (of course applies especially to women), it is natural for local and thus escape the staring bystanders minimally clothed or by verbal harassment. Of course, in red-seas resorts do not have to walk to the beach across the road in the trousers, and with veiled arms, there are shorts or swimsuits usual course. Yet it is – but mostly not required – enter eg grace the dining room in trousers. On his travels Egypt, Cairo included, is then decent clothes (pants for men, women draped legs or shoulders), a condition that you will not be disrespectful of local barrack (it is true but the fact that excessive harassment by men in Egypt are subjected to i totally veiled women separately). Similar speeches by local not react, after a while, give yourself room :-). Often is recommended as a response to such behavior (or as protection against him) only “disarming” of the Islamic greeting – Assalamu alejkum (“Peace be with you”), respectively. Answer Wa alejkum as-Salam (“Peace be with you also”)
